Welcome back to MUGSHOT MONDAY, the weekly unretouched makeover series where beauty violators are brought to justice with the latest must-have beauty products!!!  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Leslie, a new mom with the cutest baby ever!!!  With a brand new baby,  Leslie has little time for primping.  Date night with Daddy was the perfect opportunity for me to get my girl glammed up!!!

• Start with a rich moisturizer to prep the skin (Kiehls Ultra Facial Moisturizer)
• Even out any discoloration with foundation.  If necessary use concealer on areas that need more coverage.  
• Fill in brows with brow powder.  We used a shade one level lighter than Leslie’s hair color to keep a soft natural look. (vanitymark in Milk Choco)
• Leslie’s brown eyes were rimmed with a plum liner. (Urban Decay, 1999) then smudged with (Sigma brush E55)
• Peachy toned cream blush was used on the apple of the cheek.
• Natural pink lipstick keeps lips looking soft and sensuous.  

ONES TO WATCH

Oftentimes I’ll see a list of people who are considered “ones to watch”.  The funny thing is, I’m never interested in watching some little twenty-something with a limp personality, and a team of publicists, stylists, and a glam squad that make her appear to be more interesting than she really is.  The ones I like to watch have a history.  Their style is innate. They’re elegant without being pretentious. Their smiles are genuine.  They’re comfortable in their own skin… I had the pleasure of working with one worth watching recently by the name of Farida Khelfa.

While so many of the so called “ones to watch” appeared a bit lackluster at the Met Ball this year, actress, model, director and the new face of Schiaparelli, Farida Khelfa was absolutely radiant.  

I WISH SHE WOULD’VE CALLED

We will soon find out if Patricia Krentcil, “tanning mom”, actually took her 5 year old daughter into a tanning bed.  Children services intervened when school officials reported that the 5 year old had suffered from a sunburn.

Dear Patricia, you could’ve called me!!!  I would’ve been happy to give you a spray tan.  I have a completely mobile setup, I could’ve come to you.  Heck, you could’ve booked a spray tan party.  I would’ve bronzed you and all of your friends.  Darn “Patty”, not only are you facing jail time, but your skin looks like a leather handbag.  In fifteen minutes, you could’ve been a nice golden brown without the harmful UV rays.  Geeesh “Pat”, I wish you would’ve called…

HAND PAINTED

So you think being a makeup artist is glamorous, huh??  Well sometimes you have to climb out of your comfort zone and bust ass, literally!!!!  Here’s a magazine shoot that I worked on that the art director wanted the model to have flawless porcelain skin reminiscent of a  renaissance painting.  At the time, I didn’t have an airbrush machine, so I had to hand paint the model’s bum. Gaaaaaspppppp!!!  Honestly, I’m totally unaffected by that sort of thing; skin is skin.  I just wish Idris Elba had been the model. *Sigh*

2012 BEAUTY OBSESSION

For the last couple of years, Kinky Curly’s Knot Today was my favorite product of the year.  All I could talk about was how it miraculously made all of my tangles go bye-bye, how it made my hair feel silky,  Blahhhhh Blahhhhh freakin’ Blahhhh!!!!  Sorry Knot Today, I still love ya, but this year I have a new beauty obsession!!!  The new love of my life is gel nail polish!!!!  I’m obsessed with it!!!  Ahhhhhh, it’s so shiny!!!  It never dulls no matter how many dishes I wash, or bathtubs I scour.  It doesn’t chip despite the fact that I’m not a princess.  I man handle nail polish!! I make wimpy formulas chip on the first day.  However, my beloved gel nail polish stays put!!! I can keep a gel mani for at least two weeks (even then I only change it because I’ve grown tired of the color).  My nails grow like crazy with this polish!  Since I’ve been using gel nail polish I actually grew a set of talons.  Sadly, I decided to cut them down when I gashed a friends eyelid (note to self, he does not like visible scratches).  You want to get in on a little gel action???  Salons everywhere are offering gel manis, but be prepared, they are more expensive . I purchased my own Gelish LED curing lamp (it “dries” the polish) and a slew of gel nail polishes on Ebay.  I’m DIYing my gel manis—slumber party at my house, we can paint our nails!!!  Quickly, the one downside of having a gel mani is its removal; you have to soak the polish off with acetone. A soak-off takes about fifteen minutes and I’ve found that saturating a cotton round with acetone, placing it on the nail and then wrapping my fingertips up in aluminum foil like little baked potatoes works best.  Yes, that does dry out my cuticles some, but my entire hand is dry half of the time so who really cares!!  

MUGSHOT MONDAY (beta version)

Many of you who followed the blog in the past know that every Monday we had a makeover.  I enjoyed working with all of the women (and a few men) that gave me the opportunity to touch their faces, while so many of them actually touched my life.  I haven’t had the chance to do a makeover, but a friend of a friend wanted a few makeup tips.  Here’s what i came up with based on the picture that she sent.
