WHATCHAWANNAKNOW WEDNESDAY

I recently reconnected with a client of mine who is a fantastic dancer!!  I worked with Sue and her husband on a commercial, that featured the couple showing off their dancing skills.  One thing I can say about this couple is that they can really move!! The other day, Sue posted a beauty question on my facebook page about a product that she doesn’t want moving!!!

Question: How can I stop my lipstick from running?

Answer: Matte lipstick formulas aren’t as likely to run as quickly as those lipsticks that contain a a lot of emollient. Grabbing a matte lipstick is your first option!!  However,  If your absolute favorite lip color isn’t matte, there are a couple of options that you can try:  Pick up a lipstick primer.  Lipstick primers were developed to make your lipstick behave!!  They’ll grab a hold of your lipstick and won’t let go!!  Another option is using a plain old Chapstick– apply it to your lips making sure to go outside of your lip line a smidge. The waxy substance will fill in any fine lines that your lipstick might settle into.

Quick tip: Wearing lip pencil as lipstick is also an option.  Fill in your entire lip with the pencil, dab a tiny bit of gloss to the center of your lip.  Talk about staying power!!!

Here’s a lipstick primer from Too Faced,

WHATCHAWANNAKNOW WEDNESDAY

My girl Fiona, one of the bloggers over at Point, Counterpoint sent this question to my inbox:

Question: How long should I keep my mascara?

Answer: Mascara is heebbie jeebie prone!!  In other words, mascara has a tendency to become bacteria ridden.  With that in mind you’ll want to get a fresh tube every three or four months. Adding water to dried up mascaras only makes things worse, so don’t do it!!

Quick tip: Don’t pump your mascara wand, you’re only pushing air into the tube making it dry out faster.

Time to change your mascara?  Click  the image below!!

It’s MUGSHOT MONDAY, the day that beauty violators are brought to justice!!  I love aggressive eyebrows!!  Whenever I find a face that can handle a pair of hairy looking caterpillar brows, I’m quick to paint them on!!  Take a look at how they frame a face.

THE SITUATION

A while back I wore a great pair of high waist jeans to work.  I love high waist jeans!!  They don’t show crack, and they accentuate a curvy figure!!  I think they’re super sexy!!   On my lunch break, I hop on facebook and see that one of the male crew members on set has posted how much he hates high waist jeans!!  Yes Leigh, you are on blast!!!  I confront Leigh about his status update, we laugh like hyenas, and he DENIES that my jeans spurred the remark!! Leigh-de-poooh, did your nose grow? Recently, a similar “situation” occurred, take a look at the video below to see what was posted on facebook this time!!

DANCING WITH THE STARS

In case you didnt know, I absolutely love my job!!  I’m a makeup artist, the work that I do is fun for me!!!  However, there was this one time on a photo shoot that I was forced to rub lotion on this really sexy football player with a super hot chiseled body for GQ magazine.  Oh my gosh what a horrible job (wink, wink)!!  I had to repeatedly put my hands on Chad Ocho Cinco’s rock hard abs because the magazine had him jumping in a pool over and over.  My job was to make sure that his skin didn’t get dried out from the chlorine, and his lips didnt get chapped.  Talk about hard work (yes ladies, I know your hearts bleed for me)!!!

As it turns out, Mr. Ocho will be fox trotting on Dancing with the Stars!!!  Yes, my DVR is already set!! Check out one of my favorite clients on Dancing with the Stars tonight on ABC!!

WHATCHAWANNAKNOW WEDNESDAY

Yippee, the questions for Whatchawannaknow Wednesdays keep rolling in!!  Thank you guys for supporting the site!!  Let’s check out this week’s question:

Question: What’s the difference between using a brush or sponge?

Answer: Brushes and sponges have their benefits, and I actually work with both.  As a general rule of thumb, brushes don’t absorb as much product as a sponge will.  If you want to be frugal and stretch the length of time you have a product, try using a brush or your fingers. Sponges on the other hand allow you to use a stippling technique that is great for blending.

I LOVE this brush from Prescriptives,

Quick tip:  Synthetic haired foundation brushes rock!!!  Don’t forget that your fingers are fantastic makeup tools as well!!!

MUGSHOT MONDAY

It’s MUGSHOT MONDAY, the day that beauty violators are brought to justice!! When I met Joan she immediately told me that she does not like makeup!!! Uhhhooohhh!!  I knew that I had to use a very simple approach in order for her to feel good about what I’d done.  I’ve always said that the biggest transformations happen on the inside, so my challenge was to make her feel comfortable wearing (what i consider) a minimal amount of makeup without feeling overdone.

Check out Joan’s rap sheet:

  • Joan’s skin was prepped with moisturizer
  • I used a tweezerman tweezers to remove the super fine brow hairs
  • Brightening concealer was used under the eyes
  • Brows were filled in with brow powder
  • Nars Laguna bronzer was used in the hollows of the cheeks
  • Benefit georgia blush was used on the apples of the cheeks
  • Laura Mercier stardust was used to give the skin luminosity
  • Bobbi Brown orange lipstick was used with a sheer gloss on top

I later heard that Joan wore her makeup all day.  The biggest transformations happen on the inside!!!

WHATCHAWANNAKNOW WEDNESDAY

A friend and fellow blogger Siiri Sampson had a few makeup questions that she needed answered!! I’m always there for my girls, so without further adieu, here’s DIHLOMT’s very first makeup Q&A!!!

Question: How often should I clean my makeup brushes? is Johnson’s baby shampoo good for cleaning them?

Answer: Brushes used for powder should be cleaned weekly with a mild shampoo or cleanser. Brushes used for liquids and creams should be cleaned daily.  Johnson & Johnson’s baby shampoo is excellent for cleaning some of your brushes, but those brushes that come in contact with oil based products need to be cleaned with products that can break down emollient.  Celeb makeup artist Sam Fine always cleans his brushes with Dawn dish detergent –it cuts grease.  Go figure!!

Quick tip:  Allowing your brushes to dry with hairs facing down prevents moisture from loosening the glue in the ferrule.  This way your brushes will shed less.
